I’m nesting. It’s the only word for it. And the last time I nested was when I was pregnant with my first child.
This new nesting phase, however, is less about an urge to clean and wash everything in the house, but more a strong desire to get organised. Like most working mothers up until now I spent a lot of time out of the house. Weekends were once filled with hot yoga classes, school sport and getting ready for the work week ahead. Cupboards remained chaotic, my weekend wardrobe never got attention and that home office I’d promised myself was still filled with handbags, magazines and memorabilia I’d collected over the years as editor-in-chief of Harper’s BAZAAR. In there somewhere was an awesome snow globe from a Christian Dior show I attended at Blenhein Palace in 2016 and an Alexander McQueen Amadillo shoe from the 2011 Savage Beauty Exhibition at New York’s MET Museum.
My to-do list started with my home office and a visit to
to nail my desk style. As my house is monochrome, I chose black accessories for my white desk – re-usable coffee cup, airpod pro case, memo desk set and compendium — with silver San-Serif monograming. Home schooling also meant we had to quickly upgrade the kids’ work spaces and has some great desk options which are easy to assemble. I also added to cart a clothes rack for our storage room to hang up ski gear, which won’t be used for the foreseeable future.Feature & above images courtesy of Australian Home & Garden
I love cut flowers and realised replacing bunches every couple of days is not a smart option economically, so I solved that problem with a pretty pink Cyclamen and classic white Phalaenopsis orchid delivered from my local florist. Both are hard to kill, unless you water them too much which isn’t a concern for me.
My working from home (WFH) wardrobe was next as I knew my current wardrobe was not going to be suitable for the months ahead. I’m a huge fan of Melbourne label
, and stocked up on their gorgeous knits and soft-tailored pants. is a one-stop shop for comfy and my favourite . was also on my hit list for great basics, like long-sleeve tops and t-shirts. I’m still practicing yoga daily via Zoom so I also surfed and for new active wear to motivate me onto my mat (lighting a candle seemed to help as well).Nobody Denim, Skylar Jeans Long Always Blue
The Upside, Forest Midi Pant
My two daughters didn’t miss a beat and were soon online ordering “essential”
and glitter nail polishes from .We all had a shopping spree at
and because every Netflix session requires a facemask and deep nourishing hand-cream. And, to juxtapose all that screen time, we also spent up at – cookbooks for me and Stephen King novels for the girls.Go-To Skincare, Transformazing Sheet Mask
The nest is now feeling just that little bit more organised.
