March 13, 2019 – Klarna, a leading global payments provider, today brings Google Pay to its steadily increasing number of card holders in Sweden, currently amounting to 70,000. With the help of Google Pay, Klarna will make mobile payments even easier and more secure, ensuring a fast and smooth way to pay with Klarna’s flexible payment methods.
David Fock, Chief Product Officer at Klarna, says:
“We are delighted to be able to offer our Swedish card holders the possibility to use Google Pay. This marks a next step in offering the Klarna experience everywhere and is combining the convenience of buying via smartphones with the freedom and flexibility to pay when and how consumers want. Together with Google Pay, we are making everyday life easier for consumers and allow them to leave their wallets at home and still be able to pay in a smoooth and secure way.”
All Klarna card holders that have an Android phone, or other Android unit, will now be able to pay in apps, online stores and at contactless payment terminals without having to bring the physical card. After a successful sign-up, the Klarna card is instantly available for use with Google Pay, meaning that consumers can get started right away without having to wait for the physical card to arrive.
Klarna is one of the first banks to offer Google Pay to Swedish consumers. As Klarna card holders connect their Klarna card to an account at any Swedish bank, this means that Google Pay will be available for all Swedish bank customers even if their banks do not support it.
In the next few days, Klarna will also launch four completely new vertical designs of its popular card. The new eye-catching, cool and quirky design is aligned with the ‘Smoooth’ Klarna brand and has the card number on the back of the card, putting all card information in one place and improving the user experience. The card’s innovative features have been well received and very appreciated by Swedish consumers and include:
- No annual fee
- No foreign transactions fees
- Flexible payment methods: Choose whether to pay now, pay later (14 days interest free invoice) or on a monthly invoice. With the card being seamlessly integrated with the Klarna App, you can easily change your preference for specific purchases immediately, alternatively setting a threshold when purchases should be paid now or later
- Instant push notifications on all transactions and also explaining why a transaction was rejected
- Instant overview of purchases in app
- Choose your visual design
- Choose and access your pin code easily, yet securely in the app
- Temporarily freeze, unfreeze or block card quick and easy in the app
