9th November 2022: Klarna, the global retail bank, payments and shopping service, today celebrates its first birthday since launching in Ireland as it reaches the major milestone of securing 950 retail partners including Adidas, Net-a-Porter and Wayfair.
Designed to empower Irish consumers with a better shopping experience, Klarna has been used over the last year by over 500,000 customers in the Republic, with the platform enabling them to benefit from greater control, transparency and choice over how they pay for products.
Since its launch in the Emerald Isle, Klarna has also introduced a series of major product updates for Irish shoppers to enjoy, including its Virtual Shopping offering. Launched in August, this connects aspiring shoppers directly with in-store experts, via the app through live chats and video calls, allowing them to receive product advice and inspiration before making their final shopping decision.
To further empower Irish consumers to make well-informed financial decisions, Klarna also launched a loyalty card feature which allows shoppers to store and access their physical loyalty cards as digital versions within the Klarna app - meaning consumers don’t have to rely on a physical card which can easily be lost or stolen.
In addition to delivering these direct benefits to consumers, over the last year Klarna has partnered with Ireland-based carbon-removal company Silicate to accelerate growth in the carbon removal space and help permanently cut CO2 emissions from the atmosphere, to support the fight against climate change.
Using Klarna, Irish consumers are able to shop online and split their purchases into three interest-free equal payments (‘Pay in 3’) through both the app and directly via integrated partner retailers.
Colin Creagh, Head of Klarna Ireland said: “Since launching Klarna in Ireland last year, demand from Irish shoppers has only continued to grow. It has been fantastic to witness the support for Klarna on the Emerald Isle and to partner with more and more retailers who want to empower their customers to make the right purchases for them. From experiencing the growth in customers to welcoming brilliant partnerships, we’re incredibly proud of Klarna’s achievements in Ireland so far and if this is what the first year looks like, I cannot wait to see what is in store for years to come.”
