Prague – September 27, 2022 – Klarna, a leading global retail bank, payments, and shopping service, today announced its expansion into the Czech Republic in partnership with several of the market’s leading merchants. Starting today, Czech shoppers can use Klarna’s “Pay in 3” service at Klarna's integrated retail partners online and via the Klarna app, empowering Czech consumers to save time and money, be informed and in control of their finances. Klarna’s flexible payment options have been integrated by over 450,000 retailer partners worldwide already and are now available in Czechia at leading local and international brands, including H&M, Footshop and Pilulka,
“E-commerce is growing at an astounding pace in Czechia, but the payment process is still full of friction and doubt. Czech shoppers prefer to see and feel their online purchases before paying for them, but their choices are limited to outdated cash-on-delivery payments or high-cost credit cards,” said Sebastian Siemiatkowski, CEO and co-founder of Klarna. “With Klarna’s interest-free Pay in 3 service, we provide Czech shoppers with a one-click experience that gives them confidence and flexibility at the checkout. Beyond the payment itself, the Klarna App lets shoppers seamlessly track their deliveries, manage returns and control their budget, streamlining the entire shopping journey in one single place.”
With “Pay in 3,” consumers who choose Klarna at a retail partner’s checkout are able to split their purchases into three interest-free payments paid every 30 days from the time of purchase. This way, consumers can spread the cost of their purchases evenly and receive the product before they pay the full amount.
Similarly, Czech consumers can “Pay in 3” at integrated retail partners using the shopping browser in the Klarna App. With over 23 million monthly active users globally, the Klarna App unites a broad range of features that make the entire shopping journey easier and more enjoyable, while driving high-intent shoppers to Klarna’s retail partners. In the Klarna App, consumers can:
- Save money by discovering attractive deals from their favorite brands
- Easily track and manage all of their past and upcoming Klarna payments
- Track all of their deliveries in one place and seamlessly manage their returns.
- Understand their shopping habits with a monthly breakdown of their Klarna spending per retail category
- Stay in control of their finances by setting a monthly shopping budget
- View the estimated CO2 footprint for all of their Klarna purchases to help make more environmentally conscious shopping choices.
- Store all of their physical loyalty cards as digital versions to collect points when shopping in-store.
By providing shoppers with a superior shopping experience at checkout and in the app, Klarna serves as a growth engine to Czech retailers of all sizes and verticals. In a representative Klarna survey of over 1000 Czech consumers, 77% of respondents said they would find the option to split online purchases into interest free, monthly payments useful. Further, 40% say they would be more likely to shop at an online store if it offered this option, revealing how “Pay in 3” can drive conversion and purchase frequency. In addition to its payment services, Klarna offers its retail partners a suite of partner marketing services that help attract, convert, and retain customers.
Peter Hajduček, CEO at Footshop.cz, said: “Especially for fashion retailers like Footshop, offering flexible payments that let customers try before they buy and spread the cost of their purchase has become a strong differentiating factor. Services like Klarna’s Pay in 3 can help us meet these changing demands. More than that, Klarna’s powerful suite of marketing services and extensive reach of over 150 million consumers make Klarna the ideal partner for our expansion across European markets.”
Tereza Obrtáč, Head of Czechia, Klarna, added: "With our fast-growing network of partners we have truly hit the ground running in Czechia. Now, we aim to carry this momentum forward into the holiday season and beyond. Our sights are firmly set on becoming the number one growth engine for Czech retailers by helping them adapt to new consumer demands and reach new audiences across Europe.”
